MuseSecrets is a fictional take on PostSecret -- a place that posts anonymous post cards with secrets written on them. I created this comm for writers to create post cards that their characters might send to PostSecret.
What can be posted here? Any secret your fictional character might have, posted in postcard dimensions/format. You may post both side of your post card. Although a standard US post card is 4 1/4" x 6" or 10.8cm x 15cm or 432 x 288 in pixels, they can be as big as 11 1/2" x 6 1/8" or 29.21cm x 15.55cm. And really if you want to do something bigger than that, feel free. Just remember that anything bigger than standard goes behind a cut tag. You may also post links to graphics tutorials, but it'd be easier if you don't post tutorials here unless it's a specific tutorial for creating a post card.
What can be put on your post card, as far as art goes? Look at PostSecret itself for ideas. You can get as fancy or be a simple as you like, heck you can even do this in ASCII if you like. Also, please remember that your character's secret need not be earth-shattering or angsty, although many of them will be. A secret can be silly too.
How does this comm define fictional character? As inclusively as possible. A character you invented for a work of fiction. A character someone else created for a work of fiction. A fictionalized version of a real person. So yes that means original non fandom characters, RPG chracters, fanfic characters and RPS.
Great idea. Too bad all my characters are either live in pre-postcard eras or in SF/Fantasy universes. Wait! Don't go. This is magical so anyone from any time, place or universe has access to postcards and the comm. From Tolkien characters to anime characters to ancient Romans to Jedi from the Galaxy Far Far Away, any character can post a secret.
What are the cut-tag rules? If you are posting a single side of a single, standard sized postcard, you do not need to use a cut tag, unless the post card is not safe for work -- and that means anything, text or graphic, you wouldn’t want a coworker seeing over your shoulder. If you're posting both sides of the card or more than one card, you can post a teaser and then everything else MUST go behind a cut-tag. Think of your flist, won't you?
Do I have to say which character the card is for? This is optional because the original PostSecret idea is based on complete anonymity. However if you'd like to tell people, make sure you remember to use disclaimers if the character is not your own invention.
However, even if you don't say which character that the postcard is for, you do need to tell us the fandom, if it is for a fandom character.
What if I'm offended by a post or post something offensive? This is a tricky one. People's deep dark secrets are usually secrets for a reason and I want to say that this is a place for free speech where anything goes and if you can't deal with that leave, but I need to go for a balance. I would like to think everyone here is going to be reasonable about it and learn that, if they can't deal with what they see, then maybe they shouldn't be reading a comm like this.
However if you post nothing but hate-crime secrets or images and garner a lot of complaints, we'll have a bit of a chat. Things such as goatse and tubgirl and other stock shock images are instant banning offenses. I'm asking you to think before you post and to think before you read.
How can we contact the comm's mod? Any questions should be directed to me at telesilla [at] gmail [dot] com or asked in comments in the comm's intro post.
What a cool idea! How'd you come up with it. The same way I come up with most of my cool ideas: I stole it. More specifically, lannamichaels posted the idea of doing PostSecret cards for characters in the OOC comm of an RPG we both play in. She in turn was inspired by odditycollector who had the idea for posting PostSecret cards for Good Omens characters.
I have been told that the meme started with and so I want to thank her very much for the chain of links that led to the formation of this community.
